TY work-experience application checklist
Use this before you apply for a Transition Year placement in Ireland. The organisation and your school set the actual rules, so check their instructions first.

Before choosing a placement
- Check the exact dates your school permits and what forms or insurance documents it requires.
- Open the organisation’s own page or application form; do not rely on a directory alone.
- Confirm eligibility, deadline, location, dates, required documents and how to apply.
- Ask the organisation whether it is still accepting applications. “Open” does not guarantee a place.
- Talk through the opportunity with a parent or guardian and check it with your school.
Before sending an application
- Use only the form or contact route listed by the organisation.
- Prepare only the documents requested, such as a short CV, cover letter or school insurance form.
- Use truthful examples from school, activities, interests or responsibilities; do not claim experience you do not have.
- Check spelling, dates, file names and attachments. Ask a trusted adult to review anything you are unsure about.
- Share personal information only through the verified official route, with a parent or guardian’s guidance.
After applying
- Record the date and the route you used in a private place.
- Check your email or messages as agreed with your parent or guardian.
- If the organisation gives a response timeframe, wait until it passes before following up once.
- Before attending, confirm the address, start time, travel plan, supervision and what to bring.
